Horror Vacui
Sharon Virtue & Tiffany Schmierer
June 8 - July 8, 2012
Reception June 8, 6-9 PM
Tiffany Schmierer and Sharon Virtue are San Francisco-based ceramic artists, who both create intensely detailed sculpture inspired by a love of surface decoration. The exhibit’s title, Horror Vacui, is a term used to describe the fear of emptiness, and a love for profuse ornamentation. Virtue’s busts and full-scale figurative work hint at African sculptural precedents, whereas Tiffany’s ceramic pieces blend geometric shapes with her interest in narrative subjects.

Painting with Clay
Saturday June 23rd - Sunday 24th, 2012
My two great loves are paintings and ceramics. In the Painting with Clay workshop I will share with you my exciting discoveries in combining these two art forms. In this weekend workshop we will explore various ways of making marks, impressions, carving and painting with clay slip onto the surface of flat forms to create imaginative ceramic compositions. Using prepared bisque ware pieces, I will share my glazing techniques and we will discuss color combinations with an emphasis on low fire translucent gloss and opaque matte glazes.
This beautiful college set in the Sierra mountains is a treat for a summer workshop, come celebrate the middle of summer with me enjoying a fun ceramic workshop.
