Erzulie
From the Divine Dakinis Show, 2005
The Divine Dakinis was an exhibition of paintings of some of my best friends. I asked each of them which goddess they would like to be.
Voudoun, or voodoo religion holds a rich history originating in West Africa and traveling to the European colonies. The goddess or Loa Erzulie, the deity of beauty, love, wealth, and prosperity, is normally referred to as Maitresse Erzulie,
She is usually depicted as a beautiful dark-skinned Ethiopian. Erzulie is thought of in a variety of ways, which do not always encompass the better virtues of love and good will. It is believed that she can have the vices of jealousy, discord, and vengeance. She can be vain, likes pretty jewelry, cigarettes and perfume, and angers easily.
